My Poor Car

Originally drafted October 24, 2010.

I remember this all too well.  My friend Lisa and I had went out to lunch on this day.  We were headed to Janbo's for Chinese only to get there and they were closed on Mondays.  So we headed to another Chinese restaurant on the west side of Evansville.  We had just pulled out of their parking lot after eating and a lady made a left hand turn right in front of me and I hit her.  Once I made sure that I was ok and that Lisa was ok, I looked over to see how the lady was that I had hit and realized that she didn't stop her car; she drove way from the scene.  I couldn't believe it!!  I was in utter shock that this was happening!

Lisa and I pulled in the parking lot at the Home Depot.  I got out to inspect the car and to call the police.  Quite a few people stopped to see if we were ok.  Another lady stopped to tell me she got the license plate number of the other car.  Another man stopped to tell us that the lady that got the license plate number had chased the other driver down and had her cornered in the Walmart parking lot.  Workers from the Golden Corral across the road ran out to tell us that there was police in there eating and they had told them that there was a wreck.

The police showed up, made sure we were ok and got my side of the story, they went to find the other driver.  After a while, they came over and got us and had us drive over to the area where the other driver was.  The lady gave the police insurance information, but they knew she was lying so they ticketed her for illegal left turn and failure to yield, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving without insurance.

I'm not sure if my insurance company ever got their money back, but I got my car fixed!  I can't remember exactly the total cost of damage to my car, but it was a couple thousand dollars.
