Winter Wonderland 2013

While I was off work for my surgery, we had our first big snow of the year around the first week of December.  And it accumulated within just a few short hours!  I don't remember how much we got, but it was alot!  And I was bummed that I couldn't go out and play in it or go sledding with friends!

I took this picture when I first got up and saw the snow, and with in a few hours, the entire ground was covered deeply as you can tell in the second picture.

The front yard picture I took after we had gotten a good bit of snow (notice the sidewalk lights), and by the end of the night, they were almost covered (as you can see in the second picture).

And my animals aren't a fan of the snow either.  My guess is because they are low-riders!  LOL!  Thank goodness for this little patch of grass that ran the whole length of the house so they could do their business outside instead of inside on my floors!

When Shawn did come home, I had him go out and shovel the ramp and a little area on the patio so the dogs could finally go out.  I love the look of disgust on his face because I am taking his picture and he knows it will show up on Facebook.  Hee :)

Shawn had called to tell me he was on his way home for the day so me and the dogs were on the lookout for him.  I captured a few pics of him driving in the snow up the driveway....

And then he got stuck just inches before getting the car in the garage....

...and had to get out and shovel his way in.

I had to end up getting in the car and driving it in the garage while he pushed it.  He was all too thrilled about this, and the fact that I was taking pictures the entire time!

Snuggly Pets

Just a couple cute pictures of my dogs, mom's dog, and my cat keeping me company while I've been down and out at home.  Who needs a heating pad when you have all this warmth laying on you all day!

Slip n' Slide Adventures

Gavin spent last weekend with us and we had lots of fun!  Our weekend started out Friday with a day of geocaching.  You can read about our geocaching adventures here.

Slip n' Slide Fun Not Fun!

On Saturday I had planned on taking Gavin to the Newburgh Pool for the day, however the weather forecast was predicted to be not that warm and possible rain.  A few days ago, my uncle had given me a brand new slip n' slide that he got at a yard sale for Gavin to have, so I thought we would set that up and play on it Saturday instead of going to the pool.  My friend from work had also told me that she was going to Burdette on Saturday with her boyfriend and his daughter if we wanted to come along.  I thought that would be fun, but the weather still showed it was going to be cooler and rainy, so we opted to stay home.

All morning Gavin talked about the slip n' slide and wanting to get it out and play with it.  Around noon, we set up.  I got the slip n' slide out of the box and blew it up with our hand pump, then got Gavin ready in his swim trunks, and then went upstairs to get myself ready.  I sent Shawn outside to get the hose out of the shed.  Gavin needed to wear his "doggles" too so I had to get those out of the swim bag.  I also texted my friend Rachel next door to see if her son Noah wanted to come over and play on it too.  He's just a few months younger than Gavin and they have played together before.

OK, let's get outside and get this fun started!!  I placed the slip and slide in the yard, straightened out the red slider part and staked the ends down.  Shawn had the hose out so I hooked it up to the slip n' slide and turned the water on.  The water was supposed to spray over the red slide part like a tunnel so I was watching for it to come out and didn't realize that the area where the hose was connected too was twisted and was blowing up like a balloon and before I could get the water shut off, it popped.

ARE.YOU.FREAKING.KIDDING.ME???

I figured I could just shove the hose into this one part and it would still work.  Nope, it's not working, but I thought maybe it's because the hose has some semi-kinks in it.  So I go get a new hose out of the garage and hook it up and try it.  Nope, it's still not working.  So I text Rachel back and tell her that the slip n' slide is already tore up and sorry!  Then I thought, well I'll just attach the nozzle to end of the hose and spray the stupid thing and the kids.  I called Rachel back and told her to come on over anyways and that we are doing it "Redneck Style!"  LOL!

At this point, I'm freaking sweating like a pig and that sun outside is HOT!  The boys play on it for a few minutes, neither one of them knowing how to actually run and slide on it, and me and Rachel trying to show them how to do it without actually doing it.  Wouldn't that have been a sight!  They play on it for a little bit and then Reese discovers the pool of water at the end.  She wants to play in that, Noah wants to play on the slip n' slide, and Gavin wants to squirt everyone with the water hose!  And all the while that this was going on, Shawn came outside and saw a spider on the slip n' slide and start wigging out about that, so I had to kill it and he ran inside like a little girl!  We were all hot messes and I was ready to be done.  LOL!!

Rachel decided to take the kids home cause it was their lunch and nap time and neither one were happy about it.  I felt bad cause the whole event totally didn't happen the way I had envisioned it to happen.  And of course I threw the junk slip n' slide in the trash and Gavin was upset about that.  From now on Bub, we are just going to a pool somewhere.

This is the only picture I got from the whole ordeal :(  I envisioned lots of pictures of the kids running and sliding and just having a great time together.

Later Saturday evening, we went to the Vanderburgh County Fair and Derby.  You can read all about that adventure here.

Sunday morning we all got up and got ready for church.  What's the best way to eat breakfast before church?  Sitting on the doggies step stools watching Scooby Doo while the dogs salivate and pray that he drops some of his peanut butter and jelly sandwich!

After church, we went to Logsdon's in Boonville for lunch and then to the Tastee Freeze for yummy ice cream - banana for Gavin, cookie dough for Shawn, and butter pecan for Aunt Stacey.  And then we headed to Rockport to take little man back to his house where his mommy and daddy had surely been missing him.  We visited there for a little bit, and then did a few caches before heading to the Robinson-Bells to hang out and have dinner.

Another busy, yet extremely fun weekend making lots of great memories with family and friends.  We are truly blessed!

Playful Pup

I awoke Sunday morning to the sound of yipping coming from the downstairs bathroom and realized that Little Bit was up and ready to be let out of her kennel. So I took her and Hershey outside while they pottied and then inside we came. Sat on the floor for about an hour and played with and gave them BOTH lots of loving. Hershey still isn't quite sure about the new puppy, but they are adjusting to each other more each day. One thing I know Hershey doesn't like is that he can't play with the new puppies toys. Every now and then I'll catch him sneak the blue ropey cat up onto the couch. I guess I better head back to Walmart and Hershey his own. He had the yellow ropey cat when he was a puppy and I guess it's bringing back memories. HA!

Meet Reese Cup aka Bella aka Dot

About 2 weeks ago, we went and visited Reese Cup at her current home (I'm behind on blogging). She's growing like a weed as you can tell from my last post about here. This Friday, she'll be 8 1/2 weeks old and I think we are going to bring her home with us. Hopefully she'll adjust well with us and more importantly Hershey Bell. Oh how I'm looking forward to housebreaking and crying nights. LOL!! And you'll notice her name has changed. The name her current owners gave her is Dot (which I really like) and then we changed it to Bella. However Shawn changed his mind and now wants to call her Reese Cup (I think it's because of HB's and her new bed!).

Bella

Meet Bella. She's the newest member of our family. We decided to get another dog because I felt like Hershey is lonely during the day, so he'll have someone to play with, and to hopefully calm him down some. Shawn's wanted to get another dog every since we got HB, but I haven't been very keen on the idea. However, here lately, I've been feeling differently, so we decided to start looking for another mini-doxie. They are hard to find in our area, but easy to find in other parts of the country. However, I didn't want to have to have pay hundreds of dollars for the dog, and then another couple hundred more to fly the dog home. By word of mouth, our friend Heather found out that a girl she works with had a doxie that had just given birth and had five puppies, three females and two males. I called her and the next day we went and picked out Bella. She's only two weeks old in the picture and has to be at least eight weeks old before we can bring her home. So for now, she's with her mommy. Hopefully by the end of August, we'll be able to bring her to her new home.

Another Taggie Blanket

Anytime Gavin is over, HB is always trying to steal his white burp rag. I don't know what it is with that dog, but he's always trying to eat the white toilet paper and then this burp rag. So I asked my mom to get him one the next time she is out yard saleing. Well she had some old scrap material and decided to make him his own taggie blanket. He loves it and carries it around with him quit often. But now that I am typing this, I realize that I haven't seen it in a while. Hunt for the taggie has just been added to the to-do list now.

The Poor Little Tree

I was outside in the backyard the other night and noticed that Hershey Bell has been eating the bottom limb of this little ugly tree in our backyard. I saw him gnawing on it earlier today and it was too cute, but I couldn't get my camera out fast enough. It was almost like he was playing tug-of-war with the tree and the tree was winning. LOL!!!

It's nice outside today, so HB and I were sitting in the swing just chillin and I snapped a few pictures of him, the poor little tree, and his girlfriend Maggie who was walking her owner. They just live two houses down from us, so HB see her quite frequently.

He thinks he's a cat too!

The dog is taking after the cats. Both of the cats are always laying on the back of the couches sleeping. Well Hershey started doing this too. Sunday afternoon was a lazy day for all of us (esp. since I was running on lack of sleep from watching Gavin and then losing an hour from the time change!)

Shawn took these pictures while everyone was napping.

Puppy Graduation

We enrolled Hershey in puppy classes at Petsmart a couple of months of ago. They were every Saturday night for the last eight weeks. We missed a time or two, but we made the classes up. It was a basic class learning commands such as sit, stay, come, leave it, etc. Hershey did good with the commands for the teacher, and at home when we practiced. But that was our problem, we never took the time out to do our homework. So eight weeks later, our dog still doesn't listen. I'm pretty sure we wasted $110. Our teacher was LaShea Young and she's great with pets and super friendly.

Regardless it's over with now, and we have a better knowledge of the commands and when we have more time, we'll start teaching them to him again.

Saturday night was our last class and was graduation. To graduate, the puppies had to be able to do 10 "puppy push-ups". Our dog was the exception. He's too low to the ground. LOL!! So his "final exam" was to sit and stay for 30 seconds. We made it...barely! They played commencement music, had little hats for the dogs to wear, and passed out diplomas.

Here are pictures of Shawn and I with the graduate and his hat and diploma.

I set my camera up and set the timer to get a group photo. However, I also set it to take 10 consecutive pictures and didn't realize it until the flash started going off and everyone started acting silly and laughing. We had lots of looks from the shoppers at Petsmart after that.

Hershey made some new friends in the class. The first picture is Elise and Mitchell. He's a puppy pitbull that wanted to eat Hershey for breakfast. LOL!! Hi Mitchell! The second picture is Stephanie and Lilly.

Poor Hersey Bell

When we got Hershey Bell neutered last month, we also had his dew claws removed. I noticed earlier this week that one of his incisions wasn't healing proper and looked raw. I called the vet and they wanted to see him. Shawn took him in that day and I asked him to call me when he was home. He called me and said "it isn't good" and then proceeded to laugh out loud. He could barely talk. Once I finally got it out of him, he said that Hershey's incision is infected and the vet gave him an antibiotic to take for the next 10 days and also wants him to wear the dreaded cone for the next week to keep him from biting at the incision and to give it a chance to heal. The cone is what Shawn was laughing at. I know it's not funny, but he does look funny running around the yard with the cone on. We've been leaving him outside during the day with the cone on, so when I get home from work, I've been letting him in and taking the cone off. He's been doing good at not biting at his wound, so I'm going to continue to leave it off when we are home. Should he start nipping at the wound, I guess I'll be a bad mom and put the cone back on him.
