Chuck E. Cheese

Shawn won two coupons (free large pizza, 4 drinks, and 40 tokens) from the Luce Fall Festival last year to Chuck E. Cheese and I had been wanting to take Gavin.  This past Friday Shawn and I were both off so I decided it would be a good day to go.  Beth, Tommy, and Gavin met us there at 2:00 which was perfect because it was not crowded at all.  We ordered pizza and drinks and Shawn had salad, we got our tokens, and had a great time.  We all enjoyed it, except for Gavin.  LOL!  He enjoyed it, he just didn't enjoy the rides when they were moving.  As you will be able to tell in the pictures below, he was not a fan of the moving rides.  I think he cried on all of them.  We have another coupon for there, so maybe we'll wait a couple months and try it again.

Busy 3-day Weekend

This past Thursday evening marked the start of my first 3-day weekend in a LONG time. Tax season is officially over!  This was one of the easiest and best tax seasons in my 10 years at HSC.  After work on Thursday, we went to Bob Walther's Putt Putt and had a good time.

Friday morning I got up and pretty much did nothing.  I had wanted Shawn and I to do the yard work before he left, but he said the yard was too wet to mow right then and we would need to wait until later.  That was fine with me, I needed a nap.  Around noon, I woke up and started getting ready for the day.  Shawn decided then it was time to mow the yard so that sparked my first aggrevation for the day.  Why did he have to wait until it was time to get ready to leave to want to mow.  Whatever!  We met Gavin and his mommy and daddy at Chuck E. Cheese for his first trip there.  Needless to say, he wasn't a fan and I'll blog about this in another post.  After a few hours there, we left and had lots of stops to make along the way.  Shawn needed some new golf shoes for his trip to Florida, so we went to Golf Plus and Tom Howard's Golf Superstore where he got some new shoes and a new hat.  After that we headed to Walmart for a few groceries and some shorts for Shawn.  I was also looking for a new digital camera for my purse, but Walmart didn't have the one I wanted, nor did they have the shorts like Shawn likes, so that entailed a trip to Bust Buy and Target.  At Best Buy, I ended up getting a new Fujifilm Finepix digital camera.  My first digital camera was a Fujifilm, so hopefully I got a good camera.  I didn't really have time to try it out, basically I just figured out how to work it and showed Shawn.  He said he's taking lots of pictures on his trip, so hopefully they will turn out good.  Next stop, Target.  At Target, we got Shawn a couple pairs of shorts and two more shirts for his golf trip.  I'm sure I got a couple of things too ;).  After Target we headed to the gas station and to Walgreens to pick up medicine.  It was after 10 when we finally walked in the door.  I was beat!  It rained while we were out, so needless to say Shawn wasn't able to finish trimming or weedeating the grass, so our yard is gunther central.

Saturday, we had to be up at 3:00 a.m. so we could leave the house by 4:30 a.m. so Shawn could make his 6:00 a.m. flight to Orlando.  Needless to say, nothing went smoothly this morning.  Shawn fell asleep in his chair downstairs and didn't do anything, so all morning was spent yelling at each other (probably me yelling at him more!) and at 4:15 a.m. I was packing Shawn's suitcase because it's obvious that he is going to miss his plane.  We leave the house at few minutes after 5:00 a.m. and make it to the airport by 5:30 a.m.  I drop Shawn and his luggage at the door so he can get in the check-in line and I went to park the car.  By the time I got inside he was finished checking in and we were headed for security check line.  Once we got up there, I realized I wouldn't be able to go through security with him and it was a quick goodbye.  He made it through security and immediatly got on the plane.  I left the airport, went to Denny's for breakfast and then headed to Jane Young's house at 7:30 a.m. for my hot stone massage, which was very relaxing!  Between the Benedryl I had taken the night before and the relaxation of the hot stones and massage, I kept falling alseep on the table and would wake myself up snoring.  After that I headed home to do absolutely nothing for the rest of the day.  I did lay on the couch and nap and watch TV for the most part and tinkered around the house some.

Sunday morning I got up and went to Sunday school and church and then to Beth's for a cookout.  I thought the cookout was going to be for lunch however she informed it wasn't, it was for dinner so that irritated me some.  Regardless I was mainly going over there to spend some time with Gavin so that's all that mattered.  He's getting to be such a big boy and I love the fact that he knows who I am.  As I pulled up, he was standing at the gate at the door way and as soon as I started talking to him, he started grinning and smiling and getting all giggly and running around waving his hands.  He's so silly :).  I visited with him for a while and then after he was down for his nap and we ate, I left.  I stopped by the Robinson's on my way home cause I hadn't seen them or really talked to them in a few weeks.  I visited there for a few hours and then left and headed home.

Once at home, me and the doggies snuggled on the couch until it was time for bed.  Oh the comfy bed. ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz.

So it was a LONG and BUSY weekend for me.  The whole weekend I was having some issues with my allergies and had hives and swelling.  The Shanique lip even started to come out on Saturday, but I took some Benedryl the night before for my hives, and then Saturday morning I took a non-drowsy allergy pill so helped keep her under control.

From 0 to 1 in 365 Days

I'm bored and playing around on the computer.  Since I have LOTS of pictures of Gavin from every week of his life, I decided to post a picture of him every month from birthday to one year old.  I tried to post a picture of the same day each month (generally around the 18th since that was his birth day).  He's grown into such a special little boy and my heart and life are blessed everyday by him.

The best thing about flying....

well the best thing about flying on Delta....those delicious Biscoff cookies they serve.  I'm sitting here eating some of them now and thought I would blog about them.  A few years ago, Shawn and I flew to Mrytle Beach for vacation and aboard our flight there, they offered snacks.  Shawn got the Biscoff cookies, I chose a Sprite.  The motion sickness and neverousness of flying was getting the best of me.  Shawn offered me a cookie, so I tried one.  Yummy!  I motioned for the flight attendant and got my own package of cookies.  HA!  On our return flight, we got a couple packages of them.  When we got back home, I googled them online to try and find a place around here that sold them, but all I could find where places online.  I decided we didn't need a case of 100 of them and just gave up.  Every now and then I think about them and look for something similiar in the grocery store.  On one of my last grocery shopping trips, I found a package of Biscoff cookies and thought "those look like the ones we had on the plane, I'll try them".  YUMMY!!  I realized a few minutes ago that the cookies were Biscoff the entire time.  I thought they were called Biscotti and that's what I had been looking for in the store.

Flowers for Daddy

Thursday after work I went to this new flea market in Newburgh called Traderbakers.  There is a consigner in there that makes and sells flower saddles.  I had seen this particular one in there the other day and didn't it, bt didn't get it.  So Thursday evening I stopped in there and bought it and then took it the cemetary and put it on dad's grave.  He didn't have any flowers and it had been way too long since the last time I had put flowers on it.  I'm going to make a point to start replacing them often.

On Her Way to Heaven

My Aunt Nancy Bell Middleton passed away Tuesday morning.  She was a Christian all of her life and I know today that she's up in Heaven rejoicing at the throne of Jesus.  Aunt Nancy, say hi to Jesus and my daddy for me!  Her visitation is tonight at Boltinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport and the funeral tomorrow at the James Parker Cemetary in Hatfield.  If I'm not mistaken, she has a plot next to daddy.  I'm sad to hear of her passing, but happy because I know she's in a better place now.  I didn't go and visit her in her last days, or actually much at all.  I bet it's been years since I last saw her.  That's something I regret now.  I wish a couple weekends ago when I had Gavin that I would of taken him up to the nursing home where she had been at so he could meet his Aunt Nancy Bell and so that she could see "little Pete".  They both would of been so proud of him.  I know that one of the reasons I didn't was because I knew that I would start thinking about dad and be sad and didn't want to start crying.  I should of realized that's life and just dealt with it.  Now it's too late.

Some of my greatest childhood memories were hanging out at her house.  Seemed like every weekend, Pete and Repete (that's what people called me and my dad, I was his shadow), we would stop by her house in Richland for a visit.  Uncle Bob would be there sometimes, and Grandpa Herb when he was alive.  He lived in that little silver camper trailer in the backyard.  Oh what memories.  She had that tire swing in the front yard and those awesome climbing trees in the backyard.  To be a child again and living that carefree life.  Whenever there was a Jessee Reunion, everyone would come into town and we would all be gathered together at Aunt Nancy's house.  There was plenty of good eats, homemade ice cream, cards games and horseshoes, cousins and friends to play with, and lots of great stories and memories.  I truly miss all that and miss my family.  Seems like once my daddy passed away, all of that drifted away.  My cousin sissy and I have been talking about getting everyone together and starting up a Jessee reunion again.  I think this summer is going to be the summer.  We talked about it last year and never did anything, but I am going to make it a point this summer to have one.  She said there is a great park in Morgantown, Kentucky which is about a halfway point for everyone so we'll have it there.

Here is her obitutary - I copied it from the Evansville Courier and Press.

Trust in the Power of God's Promises

The Associate Pastor at my church posted this on FB and I thought it was so true and worth sharing.  I'm beliving in God for ALL of these this year.  Our God is SO GOOD!!
_____

FB Friends and Family,

Why not believe God for 10 miracles in your life this year? You might be thinking, “Pastor Brian, that sounds crazy!” Does it? Or does it sound more like FAITH? Sometimes or shall I say frequently we limit the LIMITLESS God from doing in our lives what he WANTS to do. In 2010 lets LIVE BY FAITH.

In God’s economy, 10 is the perfect number. It’s the number of completion! There are the 10 Commandments, the 10 “I Am” statements of Jesus in Johns gospel. Oh, here is another just in case any have forgotten, the tithe that is what?...that’s right 10%. Here are 10 areas in your life where you can exercise and stretch your faith. By the way, these 10 areas are in the Bible, Gods word! So we can expect, that’s right expect to receive miracles in these areas because they are PROMISES from God! So here they are:

1. SALVATION of LOST LOVED ONES

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

2. PHYSICAL HEALING

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

3. BLESSINGS in YOUR CAREER

Psalm 1:1-3 1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4. WISDOM in ALL THINGS

Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

5. PEACE and SECURITY

Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

6. FINANIAL PROSPERITY

Deuteronomy 8:18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

7. FAITH INCREASED for MIRACLES

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

8. RELATIONSHIPS RENEWED

1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

9. CLOSER WALK with the LORD

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

10. INCREASED POWER of INFLUENCE

Deuteronomy 28:13 And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them.

WHATEVER the need is that you have in your life, I am agreeing and believing with you for God to give you that MIRACLE this year! Matthew 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

It is time that you STAND on the PROMISES of God. Yes, they are for YOU!  God is no respecter of persons and his word will not return unto him empty or unaccomplished, but it will do that which he sent for it to do. That’s GOOD NEWS for you. So, today begin LIVING by faith, DECLARE the Word of the Lord over you needs, and TRUST in the power of God’s promises.

God bless,
Brian Barrett
