Yeah, today we leave for sunny Florida! Our plane leaves out of Owensboro at 4:30 p.m. and we should arrive at Orlando/Sanford airport around 7:30 p.m. They are an hour ahead of us and the flight is supposed to be about an hour and a half to two hours long. The morning started with our usual vacation preparations....my trying to get everything layed out and packed into as few suitcases as possible and loading the car so we can leave on time and Shawn fiddle-farting around. The morning of a vacation and the morning that a vacation ends are so aggravating for me for these very reasons.
I'm not sure what time we left the house, but we had to run by the gas station and gas up both cars and then Shawn had to drop off the rental car and I picked him up. We stopped at Tyler's in Rockport/Reo for lunch and it was good. I hadn't eaten there in a long time so it was a trip down memory lane. After lunch we headed straight for the airport. I loved flying out of Owensboro because it is close to home and was such a small airport. When we got there, there was only a handful of people. We only had a small setback at the ticket counter. One of our carry-on's was apparently too big to be a carry-on so we had to end up checking it in to the tune of $35. At security, I got a pat down. I think it's just a random thing cause they didn't pat down Shawn. That was a bit of humor to my already crazy morning. We had about an hour wait before boarding the plane. I thought we would be on a small plane, like a Delta Connection out of Evansville, but was surprised at how big the plane actually was. The flight was smooth and we arrived in Florida in just a little over an hour. We we got to Orlando, the airport was practically deserted so we had no trouble getting our luggage and getting to the rental car counter......ALL THE WAY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE AIRPORT PARKING LOT! I was not a happy camper. We rented from Priceline.com and the car came from Alamo and their counter is literally all the way on the other side of the airport parking lot. So there Shawn and I go, dragging 3 suitcases, a golf travel bag with golf clubs, 2 carry-on's, and my purse for about a half-mile in the sweltering heat and humidity of sunny Florida with a little bit of rain added on. LOL! We got to choose the car we wanted from the lot of full-size cars. Since it was raining, I waited under the awning with our luggage and sent Shawn out into the lot to yell out what kind of cars there were. We decided on a 2009/10 white Nissan Altima. We had rented an Altima before and knew we would LOVE it and we did! After we got everything loaded up in the car, we were off to our vacation home. THANK YOU JESUS for GPS! I don't see how people get around places anymore without it. The GPS took us straight to the house which was about an hour away, however we didn't take it off toll roads and ended up on the toll road to the tune of about $4 and at that time of night everything was exact change only. Once we got near the house, it was probably close to 9:00 p.m. and we were both tired and hungry so we found a Subway, got some supper and headed to the house.
The house was really nice and we got it at a great price on VRBO. We were able to rent it for $65 a night with no cleaning fee. I think the total was around $475 for the week. It was a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house, with a kitchen, small breakfast nook, living room, garage, a private in-ground swimming pool, and an amazing view of the lake.
After we got the car unloaded and ate and everything unpacked and put away, it was after midnight and time for bed since the next morning I was going on my hot air balloon ride and had to get up at 4:00 in the morning.
