Vanderburgh County 4H Fair/Derby

Saturday evening we took Gavin to the Vanderburgh County Fair.  Or is it Gavin and I took Shawn to the derby at the fair?  We all had a great time!  We had to park at what seemed like a blue zillion miles away (this will come into play later at the derby).  We walked around to see what all the little kids rides were before deciding to go ahead and get the armband for Gavin so he could unlimited rides.  I think he rode all of the little kids rids at least once and some of them multiple times.  His favorite were the dump trucks and his least favorite was probably the roller coaster.  I was so proud of him for riding that roller coaster.  I wanted him to ride it, but figured he probably wouldn't want to, so I was definitely surprised when he said he wanted too.  When he got off of the ride, I asked him if he wanted to ride it again, and he said "no I do not want to ride it again".  Hee!  Sometime during the derby, Gavin and I went back to ride more rides.  I had bought a couple tickets for myself so we could ride some bigger rides.  We decided on the Strawberries - I figured it would be safe for Gavin - we just sit in there and spin it around.  Well it was safe for Gavin, but was completely miserable for me!  All that spinning made me so nasueated.  Ugh!

After riding rides, and before going into the derby, we stopped and ate dinner.  Beth wanted Gavin to eat a corn dog for her, so Gavin and I shared a footlong corn dog.  It was delish!  I love fair food!

A picture of us while waiting for the derby to start :)

Before the derby started, country music artist DeWayne Spaw put on a little concert!  He was a great singer and had good songs so I'll definitely be looking for one of his CD's to buy.

After the concert it was time for the derby to start.  Before it started I went to get Gavin's earphones out of the bag and realized that I had left them in the trunk. Uh oh!  I thought Gavin would be ok without them but it was really loud and he really wanted them.  So Uncle Shawn made the trek to the back 40 where we had parked and got them for Gavin.  You can't tell me that that little boy doesn't have a big boy wrapped around his finger :)  The derby was fun to watch and we didn't leave the the fairgrounds until 11:30 pm!

An Afternoon of Swimming

We didn't have evening church a few Sunday's ago, and it happened to be the same weekend I had Gavin, so me, Shawn, Gavin and then Angie and her girls headed to Howell Pool for an afternoon of swimming.  It's a fairly new pool and it has a water slide, a swimming pool, and then a nice area for kids with more shallow water.  Gavin and I spent most of the time in the little kid area just sitting in the water while he played around.     I didn't get many pictures during the day.  This is when that new waterproof camera I am wanting would of came in handy.  We had a great time at that pool and I can't wait to go back!

Making Suncatchers for Aunt Stacey

For my sister's birthday back in May, I bought her a 4 pack of sun catchers to paint and hang on her windows.  I remember making these as a kid (only I remember using little colored beads instead of paint and then baking them in the oven) so I thought it would be something fun for her and Gavin to do.  They made them and have 3 of them hanging up on their window at home - one for Beth, one for Tommy, and one for the Gavin.  The fourth one is at Nannies.  So every time I go over to Beth's I always ask Gavin where mine is at.  When Gavin stayed with us a couple weeks ago, we were in Walmart and I bought the stuff for me and Gavin to make sun catchers.  The only problem is that the sun catchers I bought had lots of small areas to paint and Gavin's paints all ran together!  LOL!!  He got a frog and a shooting star to paint and then I had a bumble bee and a rainbow with clouds.  They were alot of fun to paint and I kept them all and have them hanging in my kitchen window.  Next time we make more, I'll get bigger ones for Gavin to paint.

A picture of Gavin and Shawn before we started; of course Gavin didn't want to have anything to do with getting his picture taken.

Gavin was doing such a good job with the pretty little green frog...

...then his painting got a little crazy!  Now we have a pretty little dark, dark, dark green frog!

Next up...the shooting star (and he's probably yelling at me to stop taking his picture!)

And the finished projects hanging in my kitchen window (ignore the dirty window please!).

CMOE Children's Museum

On Saturday afternoon while Shawn was golfing, Gavin and I went to the cMoe Children's Museum.  I had been wanting to take Gavin there for awhile, but just haven't had the chance.  He had alot of fun in there and didn't want to leave.  I had to give the "5 more minutes" warning about a dozen times before we finally did leave.  His favorites parts were the dinosaur dig, the little non-sand box, and playing with the train table in the kindergarten room.  And I hate that the little stinker doesn't like to smile for the camera anymore - it's more of a look that says "please stop taking my picture Stace!"

There are huge windows by the dinosaur dig and they gave off the best light for taking pictures!  Here are two of my favorites from the day!
