What an ordeal yesterday was! I had to take the car to Lefler's in Newburgh to have my new bumper put on from where the kid rear-ended us a couple weeks ago. I dropped the car off around 8:00 a.m. since that's the time that Enterprise got to their office inside Lefler's. Well the lady in front of me was having problems getting a rental and it took alot longer than it should. Once it was my turn, everything went smoothly and off I went in a stupid-looking car - a Chevy HHR. It is similiar to a PT Cruiser which I am not a fan off. I felt like I was in hunkered down in a little silver submarine. I didn't like the car, but dealt with it cause it was only going to take a couple of days to fix my car. When I got to work, Seth from Lefler's called and told me that when they got my new bumper out to paint, it was damaged and that it was going to be Wednesday or Thursday before another bumper would be in and that it would be Friday before the car was ready. I was fine with that, it just meant that I was driving the stupid-looking rental car longer. Yeah me!
Well yesterday at work our delivery lady was out so I do the deliveries when she's out. I was out doing the afternoon deliveries, there was maybe 5. I was at my third destination and when I went to turn the key to turn the car off, it wouldn't turn. What the heck? I tried everything I could think off - made sure the car was in park, made sure the break was off, backed up and moved to a different spot, looked for buttons to eject the key, everything - it was not turning off. I knew I wasn't stupid and that I had been in and out of the car all day with no problems. At this point, I'm starting to fret, cause it's getting close to 3:30 and I still have deliveries to make and can't just leave the car running with the key in the ignition, and great, now I have to poop too. So I called Greg from Enterprise and told him what was going on. He was just as dumbfounded as I was. He had me back up and drive around the parking lot and then try it again and nothing. He drove out to meet me where I was at and he couldn't get it turned off either. It was the craziest thing ever. I suggested I drive the car back to the Enterprise office in Newburgh and they get me another vehicile, which we did. They took that car to the dealership and come to find out that that little situation apparently happens often with that type of car. I'm glad to know I wasn't crazy and couldn't figure out how to work the car, even though I had been driving it all day.
So now I'm driving a nice big fatty SUV, a Kia Sorento. It's nice. But. Yes, there's a But. LOL!! When I got in it yesterday to leave Enterprise, it was close to 4 and I was calling my boss to let her know what was going on so I really wasn't paying attention. I got in the car, turned it on, put the gear shift down in the 'D' and off I went. As I was hammering it down the highway I noticed it was shifting, or not shifting, really weird. I thought what the heck is going on. So I pulled the car over into a parking lot to assess the situation. I thought, Lord, please don't let me have to call Greg at Enterprise again. Luckily I got it figured out. Apparently the transmission is like my car and you can drive it in auto or manual and I had it switched in the manual position and was driving it in low gear trying to hammer it at 50 mph. LOL! Whoops! Once I got that figured out, all is good. What a day yesterday was!
