Overnight trip to Missouri

Friday we had a 4 hour drive to St. Genevieve, Missouri to attend Lee & Kat's wedding at Chaumette Vineyards & Winery.  After the wedding was over, we had an hour drive south to Jackson/Gape Girardeau, Missouri to our hotel.  Were we ever glad to get to bed that night!  We were exhausted from driving and the days activities.

Saturday morning we slept late, and then got ready and checked out of the hotel and headed west a few miles to Bufordville, Missouri and visited Bollinger Mill State Park.  A friend had told me about this mill/park a couple years ago when we were at Cobblestone on vacation.  I figured since we were in the area, we would stop and visit before doing the rest of the things I had planned on our little trip.

We were greeted by this cute little kitty when we pulled in.  He was sitting on the stone sign when you first drove into the park.

In addition to touring the mill and seeing the covered bridge, there was a little trail you could walk to to see the graveyard of the family that founded the mill, and there was plenty of trees, shade and picnic tables.  It was really a nice little park and would be a great place for a picnic.

After we left the mill, we headed south to Lambert's Cafe - Home of the Throwed Rolls.   We have eaten at their restaurant a couple times when we were in Gulf Shores and I had been wanting to go to the one in Sikeston, but it's a 3 hour drive from our house.

I guess I forgot they had a smashed penny machine there, so I was super stoked when I saw it!

We got there around 1:00 and there was a ton of people everywhere!  The wait wasn't as long as I expected it to be and it went rather quickly.  We had an hour wait to be seat.  When we got there, they were calling numbers 99, 100, 101, etc.  We were number 163!  Yikes!  While we waited we looked at the menu to figure out what we were eating, we went to the gift shop to look around, and Shawn played some games in the game room.  I got a fun tie-dyed t-shirt and my smashed penny.

I got the sausage and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans.  Shawn got the meatloaf, carrots and cottage cheese.  Along with your meal, they have all-you-can-eat "pass arounds" and rolls.  The pass arounds were black-eyed peas, fried okra, fried potatoes, stewed tomatoes and macaroni, and hot apple butter and sorghum.  It was so much food!  We both took home to-go boxes filled up with all of our foods and had them for supper the next night.

After we left there, we were supposed to be headed to Kentucky Dam Village Park and then Eddyville to the outlet mall and then home.  Instead we went to an outlet mall near Lambert's and did some shopping.  By the time we got to the car, it was after 4 and we were both stuffed from lunch at Lambert's and were just ready to head home.  We did drive by the Kentucky Dam Village Park, but it was getting too dark to do anything.  We ended up getting home around 8:00 Saturday evening and were exhausted from our fun overnight getaway.
