Fun @ the West Side Nut Club Fall Fest!

The West Side Nut Club Fall Festival.  It's the second biggest street festival next to Mardi Gras.  There is over 130 food booths set up along 4 blocks of Franklin Street.  Franklin Street is packed with people, food, rides and games.  It's also a nightmare at times!

Friday Shawn and his work crew at WOW volunteer at the Wish Upon A Star food booth slinging BBQ pork chop sandwiches.  He loves it!  When I get off work on those Friday's, I try to bum a ride with Tiffany, and Ede this year, for a drop off at his booth since they live on the west side and go that way, that way I don't have to find a spot to park and then have walk to my car in the dark, cause usually its blocks away from everything.  Thanks girls!  

We ate way too much food last night!  We shared most everything though, so I guess that's good!?!?  We had a giant tenderloin sandwich, a stromboli, a deep friend jalapeno turkey sausage wrapped in bacon, corn on the cob, pig snorts, deep friend Reese peanut butter cups, lemonade/orange shake up, apple cider, cherry cider, a deep fried twinkie, a catfish sandwich, and I think that's all.  Isn't that enough you would say! LOL!  It's only one time a year, and I didn't go last year so I thought I had to make up for it!

Tiffany's niece Zoe was performing with a dance team so we stopped to watch!  She did a great job...and she was one Bad Little Girl!

We played a few games, but no rides for us, the lines are entirely too long!

Saturday night we were back down there again!  The big parade was last night and that usually ends the weeks festivities!  The parade is big, and long, and they don't throw any candy :(  Shawn always likes going to this parade; me I'm a hit and miss with it.  Luckily this year, we found a seat on one of the picnic tables along Franklin Street so I wouldn't have to stand the whole time.  I've got a pinched nerve, or muscle situation going on with my right hip/bootie area and it has been giving me fits when standing or walking for periods of time :(  

Anyways, I'm glad the fall fest is only one time of the year. There is way too much yummy food down there!  Last night we had a bbq pork baked potato, pronto pup, apple cider, orange shakeup, tenderloin sandwich, chicken fried rice and an eggroll, chicken pot pie, and some more pig snorts.  Oh and Shawn had a funnel cake with peanut butter and hot fudge.  He said that was his favorite thing down there!

One thing we both noticed that both Friday night and Saturday night, even though there was alot of people down there, there nights weren't real crowded.  It was nice!  And the weather this week was amazing for the fall fest!  It didn't rain one time and the temps were in the 70's all week!  What a blessed week for all of those organizations involved!  I hope everyone raised lots of money for their individual organizations!

Fall Fest Fun

This past week was the West Side Nut Club's 80th Annual Fall Fest.  It is supposed to the 2nd largest street fair next to Mardi Gras in New Orleans.  I can believe it!  It's a week of nothing but eating, eating, and more eating.  LOL!!  They also have rides and games, but the best part is the eating.  There are over 130 food booths all lined up and down both sides of Franklin Street for blocks.  I went Wednesday night after work and got some supper before church.  I had a deep fried twinkie (in fact, I had one every time I was down there!  They are delish!), a huge pork tenderloin sandwich, and some german potato salad.  Friday evening I went after work and met up with Angie and the girls while Shawn worked at the Wish Upon a Star booth until 7:00 p.m.  That night I had chicken and dumplings, a deep fried twinkie, fried green beans with horseradish sauce, and apple cider.  Then Shawn and I went back Saturday morning for the pet parade.  I had chicken and dumplings, a stromboli, and a deep fried twinkie.  I got an ear of corn too, but didn't like it so I only had a bite or two of it before pitching it.

Normally Shawn and I go down Saturday evening for the main parade, but this year we didn't get too because of a prior church event.  So in place of that, we went Saturday morning to the pet parade.  It was cute and there was lots of kids and pets dressed up. 

This was Franklin Street at 9:30 Saturday morning.  I couldn't believe how many people were here already!

The pictures below were "borrowed" from the West Side Nut Club's Facebook page.  I put them on here so you can see exactly what the Fall Fest is all about!  There was lots of carnival games and rides; however the games are expensive to play and the wait times and lines for the rides were ridiculously long!



I love these two night pictures I found.  It shows you just how big the festival is and how crowded it is.  The weather this year was perfect for it!  It was warm and no rain.  I remember years that you had to have an umbrella and be bundled up!

West Side Nut Club Fall Fest

Friday and Saturday nights Shawn and I were down at the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival on Franklin Street in Evansville.  Friday afternoon Shawn worked at the Wish Upon a Star booth, so I had Tiffany from work drop me off down there after work so that I wouldn't have to take my car down there and try to find a place to park.  We ate lots of yummy food while walking the streets down there.  We stopped a few times to talk to people we know.  Saturday night we took Gavin with us to watch the parade and then eat more yummy food!  While I don't remember everything we had - I do remember that the deep-fried Twinkie was probably my fave!  Gavin did really great sitting in his stroller during the parade.  All the sirens at the beginning of the parade scared him a little, but I gave him a hug and he was fine.  Then about midway through the parade some motorcycles were stopped in front of us and one of them revved up his motor and is REALLY scared Gavin and myself. 

After the parade, we went into the kiddie games/ride area to see if there was any rides Gavin could ride.  He was still too little for the rides, so we'll try again next year.  We did play the duck pond game for $5.  I think the cost of the games in the kiddie area were double what they were in the adult game area.  We only played the duck pond game because you could win a big blow-up sword and Gavin likes swords right now.  That sword was probably two times his size and he loved it.  He held on to it the rest of the night and even fell asleep holding it.
