Yeah!! The day has finally arrived! We are leaving for vacation! PCB bound!!
I took the day off on Friday to get ready and get packed. I was up early that morning and went to the bank to get vacation money and to the nail salon to get a pedicure so I'd have cute toes for the sand :) After that I was off to Rockport to have lunch with Gavin and then to pick up Mom since she was dog sitting for us while we are going to be gone. We dropped Sassy off at the house and then ran to Walmart to get mom some groceries and some last minute things we needed. And then I made one final stop at the Hallmark store and bought me a new Vera Bradley vacation purse :)
After all that, we headed for home and I started getting us packed and everything gathered. I wanted to get as much stuff packed and gathered and in the car as I could cause I wanted to get up super early in the morning and get on the road earlier. I set an alarm for 2:30 a.m. and got up and got ready; finished our last minute packing, loaded the car, told mom bye, and we were on the road by 4:05 a.m. I started the early morning travel a few years ago and it's so nice to be on the highway when there is little to no traffic at all. By the time it gets daylight, we are practically two states away!
We stopped in Henderson at two gas stations to get gas and soft drinks. The first gas station was out of ice for their fountain drink machine, so we headed to another Thorton's to get drinks and breakfast...because we have to eat breakfast at 4:30 in the morning :/
We made a couple more stops along the way - a second breakfast at the Waffle House, lunch at some funk buffet Shawn choose, rest area to potty and change drivers, and a couple more gas stations along the way for gas and sodas. Shawn and I are not good travelers. We both hate to drive and stop often to stay awake and stretch our legs.
Me taking a picture of Shawn taking a picture of the rocket ship rest area. "Special" memories for Shawn's brother. LOL!!!
We encountered little traffic, and smooth sailing traffic until we got to Birmingham and then it hit. It definitely wasn't stopped traffic, but we moved at a snails pace for quite some time.
This picture below was taken as proof that Shawn helped drive. Granted it was only for an hour, but it helped when I was extremely sleepy!
We were in little sprinkle rain showers on and off throughout the day and encountered some crazy clouds once we entered Florida.
At 4:39 p.m., this was my view out the condo parking garage! We are finally here!
The condo was just as nice, clean and comfy as it has been the last two times we had been there!
After we got everything into the condo and unpacked for the most part, we headed out to dinner at Sonny's BBQ. It was good, but it's been better. Probably because it was later in the evening when we were there. After dinner we headed to Walmart to get some groceries and things for the week, and then it was back to the condo to hit the hay for the night. I was completely exhausted from the driving and the day's activities!
